[Seoul Nat. Univ.] Jungseonnae Saengsun Gooie (정선네 생선구이)

Jeongseonnae Saengsun Gooie (정선네 생선구이) is a restaurant that serves grilled fish and has been loved by locals for ages.

Jeongseonnae is located near Seoul National University station exit number 7.

Basic set up.
Their soup is quite good.
The green things are garlic flower stems. They are quite good for cleansing your palate.

The napa cabbage is fresh and sweet.

All ready to eat! tee hee~

The restaurant really wasn't designed to attract young crowd.
Again, this place is mainly a local favorite where you can come in and have a glass of soju accompanied with grilled fish.

And they do offer quite a variety of different fishes.

They do all their grilling outside of the restaurant so the smell doesn't come in.

 Japanese Mackerel (14,000KRW)
The fish is quite big.

 It's been salted very nicely.
The outer crust is nice and crispy, and the flesh is soft and juicy.

It goes really nicely with the napa cabbage.

The belly part is really nice and crispy as well.

Perfect companion to bowl of rice as well as soju.

 This is called doroomook (도루묵).
I guess sailfin sandfish in English?

It's a small fish that gets filled with eggs during their spawning season.
The fish itself is pretty bland, but those roes are quite delicious.

It's rather tricky to keep the roes moist while maintaining crispy crust.

The texture of the roes can be a challenge to get used to, but once you get used to it, you'll love this dish.

If you like grilled fish, and if you want go to where locals go, Jeongseonnae (정선네) is highly recommended.
