BaekChae Kimchee Jjigae (백채 김치찌개) is a kimchee jjigae franchise that is popular among students here around the Soongsil University.
Their menu is simple.
They serve kimchee jjigae in 4 different portion sizes from single serving to extra large, and other "toppings" that you can add to your kimchee jjigae such as ramyun noodles and dumlings.
It basically says "We go out of business if we cheap out on meat"
Dumplings (1,500KRW)
Frozen dumplings you add to your jjigae.
Rice (1,000KRW)
All you can eat rice bowl. These are free during lunch time.
Salted seaweed flakes for the rice.
Kimchee jjigae botong size (13,000KRW)
If you dig through the soup, you'll find big chunks of pork as such.
About 3 chunks to be exact.
You have to cut them up into bite sizes with the provided scissor, and then bring the soup to boil so that the meat gets cooked thoroughly.
While the meat is getting cooked, you can also dump in the dumplings...
and ramyun noodles (1,000KRW)
We also ordered omelette (6,000KRW)
These are quite big also.
These are nice and soft.
Can't really taste bad with all those ketchup and mustard they put on the omelette.
Once the ramyun is cooked, you eat the ramyun first.
And then you eat the kimchee and meat with the rice.
Dumplings are just ordinary dumplings you can find at the frozen food section of your local mart.
When the soup gets boiled down...
You can ask for more broth for free, and it's like getting a brand new pot.
When compared to other kimchee jjigae places around the area, Baekchae is a better choice.
It's not that their jjigae is the most amazing jjigae in the world, but because they are a franchise, they are really consistent and clean.
A good place for a meal as well as a drink that's not going to put a hole in your wallet.
